Jessie Jones, Gabe Adams
Jessie Jones is living the live – except for the fact that she earns it by working the streets. She’s been under pimp Spence’s thumb for fourteen years, and she isn’t looking for change. That is, until undercover cop Gabe walks into her life and offers her something she’s never had before: a love, a future, a home. But even if Jessie could walk away from Spence, there are darker forces of evil who want her to stay put, or worse, dead. In this romantic suspense, author Heather Huffman delivers an adventure from the vibrant streets of St. Louis to the caves of the Ozarks as Jessie discovers whether she can love another, whether she can love herself, and whether any of it is enough.
I read Throwaway after I saw Sylvain Reynard’s review (author of Gabriel’s Series), where he mentioned that this book has this following subject; prostitution, human trafficking and slavery, and organized crime. I think that’s the main reason as to why I want to read Throwaway in the first place.
So here’s what I think about Throwaway:
In my personal opinion, Throwaway is one of the most inspiring book that I have ever read. Ms. Huffman did an incredible job writing about prostitution and human trafficking. She shows us that those kind of problem, is indeed, still exist whether we want to acknowledge it or not. And I love the fact that she writes those stories along with strong female lead character who refuse to lose hope, no matter what kind of life situation she’s in. Instead of weak and fragile, Jessie embodies the female warrior every woman should become. She fights for justice, freedom and her happiness simply in the name of love.
Gabe is also a character not to be missed. While other men see Jessie as just another sex object, Gabe sees her as who she is outside her job, a strong caring woman. Somehow he can manage his profesionalism as a cop yet his love to Jessie remains solid.
I highly recommend this book as a must read. I can’t imagine anyone read Throwaway and didn’t like or touched by it. And it should be noted that Ms. Huffman asks her readers to make a donation to WorldVision’s program to aid and protect sexually exploited children. Finally, thank you Ms. Huffman for writing such a beautiful and inspiring story and share it with us.
My favorite quotes:
“Any fool can follow the rules. It takes a special kind of person to keep a kind heart through the worst this life has to offer.”
“Sometimes in life, there are pivotal moments. While seemingly benign on the surface, something within acknowledges that a bridge has been crossed.”
